The Playground
Walking through the double doors
Into the warm Chicago afternoon
You slip off your suit coat
And loosen your tie.
A group of boys are playing tag on the black top
Behind the school
Across the street their moms gossip
As they power walk around the block,
Cell phones in hand and Peach Perfection smoothies
From Jamba Juice in the other
On the playground teachers supervise
The children as they discuss their lesson plans
For the rest of the week
And in the field behind the playground
Two girls share a PB&J sandwich
Underneath the weeping willow tree.
