An Ode to Elephants
Big ears, long trunk, unbelievable size!
After seeing my first one in the zoo, I was forever traumatized!
Named “The gentle giant” for it’s cautious way,
The elephant has been used for many movies, to show how an elephant spends its day!
It all started with Dumbo, a Disney movie that brought you tears.
About a small pachyderm with unusually large ears!
Then came Horton, a Dr. Seuss character as big as a tower!
Who heard a city, upon a tiny speck, upon a flower!
These majestic creatures wouldn’t hurt a fly, and yet they are continually hunted for their tusk and one must wonder…why?
Is it really worth a necklace or a ring for this animal to die?
You may think it’s worth it to look fashionable, but not I!
So let’s save this animal, if not for us but for the children to come.
Let’s make sure the population number is as big as there size…not just some.
