Summertime
The sun beats down, burning hot.
She stand completely still in grass that is too high,
wearing shorts that are too short,
and a shirt that is too big.
Her neighborhood buzzes with life.
Shrieks of little girls playing jumprope,
and the whirring of bicycles gliding along the sidewalks.
The snipping sound of grass being cut by a lawnmower,
and the familiar splash of water splattering the ground.
Raising her face to the sun wearing oversized sunglasses, she listens.
She knows these sounds well; she loves them.
These are the sounds that tell her, it is summertime.
