The Rebellion
We rebelled against the nap,
Which always came
When we were least tired.
We rebelled against the vegetable,
Whose wicked greens
Curled our tongues.
We rebelled against the parent,
Whose kissy marks branded
Our scabby bruises in the cafeteria.
We rebelled against the teacher,
Who shoveled a monotone voice
Down our deaf ears.
We rebelled against the SAT,
Whose swindling questions
Barricaded us out of Harvard.
We rebelled against the tax,
Which pick-pocketed Washingtons
Out of our desolate wallets.
We rebelled against the machine,
Which winded and grinded its way
Into mechanically stealing our jobs.
We rebelled against the clock,
Which tick-tocked wrinkles
Into our once-smooth faces.
We rebelled against the nurse,
Who force fed pineapple sized pills
Down our straw-thin throats.
We rebelled against the reaper,
Who played by its own rules
In our lifelong games of hide and seek.
We rebelled against the rebellion,
Which grew as old as we did,
But never died.
