Suspended Diamonds
Every night when the sun sinks below the horizon and gently falls to sleep,
I wait for the night sky to begin its Broadway show.
The atmosphere winks with stars as they curtain call onto the galaxy's stage.
More and more appear and fill the black, blank ocean of emptiness.
Each clustered constellation dangles by imaginary threads.
My eyes become hypnotized as I am captivated by the beauty that stands solemnly in the world above me.
I long inside to live within the painting portrayed overhead.
For the rest of the night,
I play my game with the stars.
One by one I count the suspended diamonds until eventually my eyes are forced to close and I dream my way to morning.
