Taken
Why did I dance on land that night
How could I have known you would happen by
And see a fish from water, a bird out of flight
How could I have known your heart would fly
How, lost in fluid step
Could I have been able to sense
As upward, toward my doom you crept
And stole my sole defense
My body burned and twisted, split with pain
You held up that part of me, turned me to solid rage
With skin and hair, eyes black with your gain
You carried me off to an ornate cage
Many were its windows and halls
Spectacular its views of unfathomable bluffs
From which I could neither gaze nor fall
As you kept me tied in crimson dresses, mahogany cuffs
You said in my hands I held your heart
As through my fingers drained my mind
As every day captive tore it further apart
With want for the love that had been left behind
I did not tell you as the baby grew
Hid the churning, kicking girl from her merciless father
Never, I vowed, would she be forced to know you
Always, I swore, she would be as the water
I ran with her, body and skin still torn
Watched as she floated, faded away
Asleep on the current, silent newborn
I will love her only for this, my final day
Silent, Luna hides her eyes
As I stand, arms spread, lost and free
Unleashing years of pent up cries,
I fly into the once loving sea
