From the Hurtling Depths of the Vast Outer Space
From the hurtling depths of the vast outer space,
And the wisdom of stars winding outwards with grace
From the startling depths of the blue sprawling sea,
To the diminutive hairs on the back of a flea
Mankind finds fame, his own special show
An important aspect of the live status quo
The world is too large to sit back and watch,
He needs to stand out; to be top notch
Macbeth wanted fame, to be king and rule all
But through murder and blame he would bring about his own fall…
Sitting up high with the king silently slain,
Macbeth’s head grew big and he thought for only his gain
With his power he killed all who threatened his plan,
Saying, “The very firstlings of my heart shall be the firstlings of my hand” (IV, ii, 146-47).
From the beginning, however, there was a root for the deed--
It was Lady Macbeth, who for murder sowed seeds
Her love for power had spawned dreams of great fortune,
So she voiced to Macbeth, “What cannot you and I perform upon th’unguarded Duncan”
(I, vii, 69-70)?
They lived for the kill, and killed so they could live,
But at the end of the thrills, something had to give…
The conflict of guilt was the downfall of one
To her own guilty conscience did the Lady succumb
She killed her own self, with the flame she had fanned,
“All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand” (V,I, 44-45).
The second set store in a suggestion of fate
Neglecting to think until it was already too late
Macbeth, overconfident, felt it smart to forewarn
Macduff of his life which “must not yield to one of woman born.”
Macduff was the exception, who “was from his mother’s womb untimely ripp’d” (V, vii, 15-16),
And Macbeth was defeated; by fate he was gripped.
So through all the flashy and arrogant people,
You can be different, the bell in the steeple
The unspoken cornerstone, the silent synapse
Of importance in shadow, safe from pride’s traps.
