Skipped Path
Deprived of water
on a barren tourist island,
we skip the path to hydration
for a quicker route home.
This seven mile journey
has been a task with rewarding sights.
A tree turned with roots torn from the ground,
a shipwreck buried in algae,
a sand dune with unbearable incline,
but I’m still out of water.
A steady pace
on a trail carved through the trees,
we’re nearly home
to our mummy sleeping bags
where there’s water.
Arriving at camp
i’m dried out,
and for the sake of cooling down
my body decides
to reject everything that’s left.
