Those Three Words
I ran.
I ran like I’d never run in my life.
A message is so simple,
So empty,
Drilled a whole in my heart.
Two words:
“He’s here.”
The pounding in my ears becomes louder,
The pinkness in my cheeks burns redder.
How can so much water be stored behind my eyes?
It spills over streaking my face.
I keep moving for fear of missing him,
And the words keep rolling through my head.
I’m dreaming. I’m dreaming. I’m dreaming.
But I’m not.
I see him.
All the air escapes from my body.
Silence is suddenly my best friend.
And for a second,
I think I hear him say those three words.
