The Army Girlfriend Ode
In all of this, we have no official title,
but the part we play for them is very vital.
We are there for each and every one,
because this journey has only just begun.
These times are extremely rough,
but our men have taught us to be tough.
We know the dangers that they might face,
and we take precautions, and prepare ourselves just in case.
We memorize the feel of their skin,
even down to the stubble on their chin.
That one 30-second phone call brings tears to our eyes,
to hear that our soldiers hold a surprise.
They are on their way back to us,
up until that day, all we do is obsess.
We run and jump into their arms,
always falling for their charms.
The days are great with them back,
until the day Uncle Sam calls and says “we’re under attack.”
They have days to just up and pack and get ready,
and before they leave, our feelings are unsteady.
