That Moment

You know that moment when you're about to burst?
When things can't get better, so they'll soon get worse.
That beautiful moment before the top blows,
That instant of chaos when anything goes.
The whirling and tumbling of a water slide
When you can't sit still and enjoy the ride
Like a kid before Christmas (no sugarplums, please)
You could fly through the sky with the greatest of ease.
But when that moment's past then it all could unwind,
You could fall from those clouds going out of your mind.
Screams no one hears from behind the glass,
And unlike the first, this moment won't pass.
So hold on to that moment, though chaos ensues,
Because later it might keep you out of the blues.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem at theatre camp and shared it with the group. It later was used twice in our show, sort of as the common thread throughout it. I was the first poem I had written in quite a while, and it came to me surprisingly easily. This piece has brought me nothing but happiness.
