Beautiful
Thou art fair
Thou art the fairest flower in the field
And yet thou wilt hide thine beauty
Ashamed to show others your fairness
Thou art like a flame of an e’er burning candle
Burning brighter than can be compared
But thou tryst so hard to hide thy flame
rather than shine brighter than thought possible
Thou hast the fairest face of all the maidens
Yet I see thou coverest it with colors
Just so those you consort with
shall be content with your mask
Thou wilt cover thine face constantly
With thine hands or thine cloths
Ashamed of your natural and lovely fairness
Thou amazes me with thine blindness
Your face puts stars to shame
Those eyes that twinkle more than stars
The color of thine cheeks and lips
a crimson so bright that even a rose would be
ashamed of not having such a red
Thou hast the qualities to be dignified
Yet thou wilt try your hardest to not be
Wherefore?
Thou couldst be a queen
but chooses to be a sirrah
Thine flame is so bright
Yet too dim to see in darkness
Thou amazes me with your cover
The beauteous flower shall not walk
in the sun. But shall hide in the shadows
and let inferior flowers twinkle and dazzle
Thou art like a garden of flowers someone
hath forgotten and not been cared for
At one time so fair and envious
but now lay covered in weeds and ruins
Past hope, past cure, past help
as thou hath told me
And yet thou knowest not
what thine future can tempt thee with
Perhaps a villain of thee makes you think
in such a dismal manner
He that hath caused thee pain
should know the wrath of mine sword
Marry! What am I saying? Shame come
to me for wanting such violence
I shall forbear the outrage
An outrage such as that shall
leave me little but that quickly
burning flame of vengeance
Ay me. Wherefore must thou be so difficult
Thine past is thine past. It shapes thee
but can not mold thine future
So wherefore art thou living in thine past?
Be bold. Take off your colors
and let your flame glow bright
Show the maids thine fairness
and put their looks to shame
Let thine true colors define thee
and not some artificial color as easily
gotten rid of as was put on
Have thine flame burn bright like the sun
so as to teach torches to burn brighter
Make others marvel at what they once shunned
and regret their choices
Be all that thou canst be
Control thine fate and. . . and. . . and-
Thou wilt not do what I say
Nor even make an attempt to change thyself
Even though I see what be best for thee
All lights will shine brighter than yours
And maidens shall not be compared to thee
Even though as I write this to thee
I fall in love with thee and thine beauty
Thine crimson cheeks and rosy lips
Astounding face and body beyond compare
Any man that shall have the honor of knowing thee
shalt have a bounty as boundless as the sea
He should cherish thee and treat thee
with gentle care and tender love
His heart should yearn for you when away
And be faithful when he be with you all day
Your bud of love should prove a beauteous flower
and it’s enchanting fragrance touch souls
to make others hiding buds bloom
by summer’s ripening breath
If only thou couldst find a man like that
for thyself and have him be loyal
I would offer thee mine love,
but I am too bold
For thou art heaven
A place so beautiful that eyes gaze in wonder
Heaven is too good for me
and an attraction that shall never
cease to amuse me
Ay me. I wish that thou would
take mine advice and love thyself
for who thou art and not for
what other fools think of thee
Till I write to thee again, Adieu!
