The Love and Excitement
You are the love and the excitement,
the hugs and kisses.
You are the sun to my morning
and the moon to my night.
You are the beats of my heart
and the air to my breath.
However, you are not some fly on the wall,
a hole in my sock,
or wind in the air.
And you are certainly never tears upon my face.
There’s just no way you’d ever be tears on my face.
It is possible that you are a rabbit in a hat,
maybe even a penny on heads
but you are not even close
to being some dust on a shelf.
And a quick look in the mirror will show you
that you are neither dirty clothes in baskets
nor garbage in a can.
It might interest you to know,
speaking of the plentiful imagery of the world,
that I am rainbows in the sky.
I also happen to be ink in a pen,
a scented candle,
and chocolate chips in cookies.
I am also the squirrels in the tree,
and howl from dogs.
But don’t worry, I’m not the love and excitement.
You are still the love and excitement.
You will always be the love and excitement,
Not to mention the hugs and –somehow- the kisses.
