Growing with the Moon
A splinter of light.
It gleams through the
dark night sky,
giving depth to the young child’s eyes.
She stares in wonder
and her fascination grows,
What is this thing that
appears to shine so bright?
And all the scientific realities
don’t
matter to her;
It is still a miracle.
The stream of light
continues
to flow and illuminates
the old window.
Adding light to this
dismal little room,
highlighting the
dust
that was
meant to be cleaned this morning.
The sky
breathes,
creating wind and the shadows
dance.
Still the young woman hides
under her blankets
afraid of the noises and the dark,
but if only she
came out,
she would see;
The moon
shining
bright, the shadows
dancing,
All working hard, hoping
to receive a
smile.
A shimmer of light
adds a luminescent
glow to the old
widow’s glasses.
She sits alone
in her vacant house.
It is here the silence screams the loudest.
She breathes
in the light
as she looks outside,
She smiles.
To her,
the moon will always be a miracle…
