Bedroom Stains
Congratulations to the lipstick stain on my pillow,
Left by my former lover,
Now her memory remains all over my sheets.
Her essence drenches my covers.
I send my deepest regards to the wall with the purple stain,
where we had our first paint fight the night you moved in,
I tug at my hair, at 4am, screaming your name in vain.
I envy the picture under my pillow because she sees your face every night,
she gets to re-trace the strict lines of your jawbone,
and those eyes that shook my body with delight.
I pity my bed springs who still creak in fear,
from the night we made love on our old mattress,
we made the whole room quake including the chandelier.
I love the coffee stain you left on my bedroom wall,
you threw your cup at it in our last fight,
when we decided to end it once and for all.
But now here I am at 4am,
counting our bedroom stains,
Here I am at 4 am
shackled by nostalgia’s chains.
