thy pain

On thy arms I see thy scars,
On thy face I see thy tears,
In thy heart I find thy darkness,
But when in the presence of others,
On thy arms you see uncut skin,
On thy face you see a smile,
In thy heart you find happiness,
And all because I wish for you not to see thy pain,
Because I don’t think you’d understand,
And so I face thy pain alone.
