Giants, Titans, Angles of Death
A march of sorrow, a last breath
The toppling of Temples, a city in fire
Amissed were They who had shouted "Liar!"

The wavering of trees, the clearness of the sky
Bounded to the earth, alone to die
Trains going nowhere, showers that don't clean
The sobs of a mother, what does it all mean?

Sleep, work, eat only a little
Death is watching, no time to be fickle
Eyes glazed over, mind elsewhere
The numbness of lashes, their piercing glare

Sleep is no comfort, nightmares beyond dreams
Their hopes, Their wishes, Their endless screams
Living corpses, a garden of bones
Smoldering children, blood stained stones

Gone are the days of summers past
Of smiles, of laughter, all that hast
Thrown in the fire, left to burn
Bitter tears of no return

This was inspired from Elie Wiesel's 'Night'. We were, as a summer reading book, to read and find or create an original poem based on one of the topics.
'Gone are the Days' is not only based off of the Holocaust, but also the Armenian Genocide, which occurred from 1915- 1917. My family is Armenian, so the connection I feel towards this is extreme personal. Unfortunately, the Armenian Genocide is not as well known.
This is a solemn dedication to all those that suffered and passed during their time of prosecution.
