Lost Memories
Walking barefoot on the beach
With falling cigarette ash and sand mingling between your toes,
All that you know tucked away
Behind an exhaled screen of smoke.
The misty-gray sunshine peeks through to greet you
As you walk along the shore.
Seagulls call out,
The only ones who try to penetrate
Your cold and pale exterior.
Blanket tucked tight
As your only friend,
You return to the sea-side cabin,
Cigarette and photograph in hand.
