Oven Clock
Silently she sits there in your kitchen
counting the time that passes.
Think of how much she sees
behind her glasses.
The morning routine: making coffee, cereal,
eggs and bacon on a sunday;
Conversations at the countertop:
Father asking “how was your day?”
The only time she is payed any attention
is when you need
to change the clocks for daylight savings
or time your meals.
She hears Grace prayed
before you eat.
She sees the daughter dancing around
and the son sneaking treats.
Silently she sits there in your kitchen
observing your lives.
Silently she sits there in your kitchen:
unnoticed but wise.
