It’s just a game
We were put here as toys
Meant to go insane
Labeled as girls and boys

We were put here as toys
Made to feel rejected and pathetic
Labeled as girls and boys
As a part of “God’s” aesthetic

Made to feel rejected and pathetic
We cry ourselves to sleep at night
As a part of “God’s” aesthetic
We try to conform to feel right

We cry ourselves to sleep at night
Asking what’s the point
Trying to conform to feel right
Wells in our eyes and aches in our joints

Asking what’s the point
Working so hard to end up with
Wells in our eyes and aches in our joints
With feelings so passionate

Just working so hard to end up with
Any feelings at all
With feelings so passionate
With feelings so small

Any feelings at all
Make you vulnerable
With feelings so small
You try to be discernable

Making you vulnerable
You’re meant to go insane
You try to be discernable
But it’s just a game

The author's comments:

I chose a pantoum as the form for my poem because it is a very structured and repetative form. In a way, this references my piece's topic because I believe today's society is very structured and repeatative. I hope you enjoy my piece :)
