Fox Off in the Rye
I tried to catch a fox today.
Up the slopes it went.
I ran and I ran, come May,
Till the fox was all but gone.
I thought I could trap this fox,
Hide it; keep it in a box.
But this fox was smarter than I,
And off it went rumbling into the rye.
Happiness escaped,
Left me brutally misshaped,
From years and years of prying.
The fox left me there crying.
What a sly fox it was indeed.
It taunts me even to this day.
I'm left here of dire need.
I'll come again the following May.
With the hopes that it will visit me,
Because I know the door to Happiness,
I simply lack the key.
