Who will give us back this present time if we waste it?~St. Abba Dorotheos

It twirls and flies with endless momentum,
dragging under each hapless victim.
Pouring over trees, rocks, and people,
The stream is huge, and you are little.
It does not stop, it will not pause,
it drags you under with it’s claws.
Surrounding it is life and plenty,
But inside it is hopeless frenzy.

Fear the day when it decides
that you no longer shall see the skies.
When it chooses, you shall do
whatever it does want you to.
Perhaps you’ll be dragged to the deep
where what awaits you is black as sleep.
The stream is dark, the stream is cold,
the stream will never be controlled.

How little it looks as you drift
upon your raft, looking for fish.
You must get home quickly before
the stream won’t let you to the shore.
“But stay a little longer.” says she.
“The world is soft, do not fear me.”
So you drift farther, farther still,
until you cannot regain the till.

Your body is forced to twist and turn as
the stream takes you and makes you mad.
The world is upside down and backwards
Did I not warn you of this hazard?
It’s true you’ve made your last mistake.
Soon your life the stream will take.
It’s too bad for your life and family.
But for this the stream has no pity.

When you fall into it’s caress,
your family will get no recompense.
As your vision turns black and blacker,
your family will surely suffer.
Deep into the peace of death.
But this is not perfect redress.
It should have not happened this way.
You were always supposed to stay.
