A long time ago when the sun was white And the birds didn’t yet have their flight
When the tree leaves were yellow and snow was gold When old things were new and new things old
There once was a place called Fiddle-Fum-Foo Where foo-flowers blossomed and foo-trees grew
A little foo-bug lived happy and free  Till the tragic day of July twenty-three
On July twenty-three when the sun was still white And the birds still didn’t have their flight
When the tree leaves were yellow and snow was gold When old things were new and new things old
A butterbug visited Fiddle-fum-foo And decided the land could be shared by two
So butterbug put his belongings there And a minute of resting he did not spare
Till foo-bug came to know about him And went off to break butterbug’s limbs
“Please” said butterbug, “spare me the death” I’ve walked from Butterville and haven’t caught my breath
I’ll leave if you want, not a moment I’ll stay So if you don’t like me I’ll be on my way.”
Foo-bug felt bad about what he had done And decided Fiddle-fum-foo wasn’t meant for just one
“Wait!” said foo-bug “Please don’t you go I don’t want to live here if I’ll be alone”
So butterbug came back and put his things down Fiddle-fum-foo had a new bug in town
“If you don’t mind, I could be your spouse” Butterbug just wanted to have foo-bug’s house
“Sure” said foo-bug, “Of course I don’t mind Because you have been to me nothing but kind”
So butterbug slowly pushed foo-bug’s things out  And slowly, so slowly, he ruled foo-bug’s house
“This isn’t enough” said butterbug  “All I have is a house and rug”
So butterbug decided that Fiddle-fum-foo Needed a special person to rule
Foo-bug became butterbug’s servant And butterbug forgot their friendship so fervent
Butterbug took new things and turned them old He made all the snow no longer gold
He made birds fly so to bring back food And the last thing he did was ever so rude
He took the foo-trees of Fiddle-fum-foo And said to them “I don’t need you”
He ordered that all the foo-trees be chopped And that all the foo-flower nectar be mopped
Foo-bug was bitter and wanted foo-trees So he said to butterbug “I want foo-trees please”
Butterbug refused to give him the plants And off he went to a royal dance
While butterbug was gone, foo-bug was pleased For in a small nook he found foo-trees
He gathered the plants and brought them home For foo-bug had a plan all his own
He’d planted the foo-plants and strewn foo-seeds In order that he may satisfy his needs
He never did have to receive Butterbug’s pardon For foo-bug had grown a secret garden
About this garden, he’d never tell Or butterbug would anger and cast a wicked spell
But one day butterbug came to know About the garden foo-bug had grown
So he went to the garden and his axe was brought too To cut down the foo-plants of Fiddle-fum-foo
He set to work to chop the trees And didn’t even stop to sneeze
At last the garden was cut down And there were no foo-plants in Fiddle-fum-foo town
“Wonderful” said butterbug “They cant stand a chance” And off he went to a royal dance
The gray clouds were bitter and so were the blue They knew there was something that they could do
They spread out their bodies all over the land Over the rocks and over the sand
They took a deep breath and let out the pain For today was the day that they’d make it rain
It rained on the town of Fiddle-fum-foo And a certain bug was out dancing and didn’t know what to do
Quickly the little bug called for help He let out a cry and then let out a yelp
Foo-bug had heard him and gave him a hand Despite what butterbug did to the land
“Thank you oh foo-bug for saving my life I tricked you at first into being my wife
I slowly moved in and I pushed your things out So that I could live all alone in your house
I figured your house was just too small for me So off I went so the ruler I could be
I enjoyed my life for many days And enjoyed the never-ending praise
I forgot all about the day you let me in I felt like I had to win
But all this time I really lost And realized my friendship was tossed
You didn’t have to save me, friend After all I’ve done, I deserve to end”
“Please” said foo-bug “We may not agree But I’m good for you and you’re good for me
This foolish mistake we should undo And live happily ever after in Fiddle-fum-foo”
So that foolish mistake they did undo And they lived happily ever after in Fiddle-fum-foo!
