They say the other side is of greener pastures
You lay open your limbs on the razor wire
But it is just as easily a cage of masters
They display only the green, speak not of the mire

I ask you be wary, my love
For this be the land of cheapened laughter, of invisible grief
Step lightly, eyes wide, my love
Lest you join the shipwrecked on hidden spires of yon hazardous reef

For though the grass be green the fence be cruel and high
Claim precious right to thy rough stronghold
Care, my love, don’t hustle freedom quickly aside
Treat each freedom breath as gold

Though the gate it swings wide
Prance not in eagerly
To lush pastures inside
For escape from such meadows is not executed easily

And once the masters bolt the gate
My love, you’ll open your eyes
Half a second too late
You have loaned out your freedom, exchanged it for lies

So stray not to the precipice, stay well back if you would
Stand far from yon quivering narrow beam
Toe not the line betwixt “great” and “good”
Know good it be green, great it be free, the choice not so easy as first it does seem

Wake quickly, my dear
From this drifting, walking sleep
Run swiftly from here
From these black waters swift and deep

Head up, eyes bright, feet quick and trap-wary
Know that alabaster words doth fade
That truth doth shrink and justice so varies
Risk not a moment’s glance, a burglar’s raid

Take heed of my words
I implore you my love, make worth of these worthless epitomes
Walk not the path that been trampled by herds
Lose sight of the light that hath blinded me

Walk, I beg you my love, the rough, unused trail
Hold not your breath, toe not the delicate line
Learn, my love, to climb yon stairs without use of rail
Care, my love, for the trickling sands of time

And consider this, my love, what would be the greener side
Naught, my love, but for the use of violent pesticides
