Fire cackles, bright and burning
Flames hiss, hiss into the night
Silence echoes, smoothly churning
Softly shines the flickering light
Small disruption, none awake
Sleep ensnares as stillness breaks,
Quiet footsteps, tap, tap, tap
Blankets tighten, warmth a'wraps
Skies are clear, and moonlight wanes
Crickets chirp as calmness reigns
Minds are dreaming, none feel fear
Even as the noise draws near
Whispers carry through the wind
As the fire meets its end
Whistling, whistle, breathing, breath
Approaching now is tranquil death
