With eyes wide open and glittering,

and nights, all bright, alive

We disregard our generations poets

and instead, We watch a screen where people lie

To put on a show, a famous dance

to shift your mind and where it stands

to distract what is wrong, with what looks right

We fall quite slowly in to the night

where sex and song has been transformed and trite

We will remain blind and unfocused on what is right

Our over sexualized nation is what is wrong

Our lying politicians, Our bad charactered songs

...Our social media, the internet alone...

Our schools are built like prisons,

is America really free?

are you sure you're not imprisoned?

Open Your Mind and Think Like Me

Our poisoned food,

Our lower class,

should you really take that class?

language is mind control, don't you see?

Open Your Mind and Think Like Me

Follow the money and where it goes,

how it runs and how it flows,

Who is it going to? Don't you see?

This Life is a Game, Please Think Like Me

They control your words, and what you see

They control your computer and your T.V.

They control what you hear, and what is told

They control what is bought and what is sold

If you can't keep a secret, you better leave

Open Your Mind, Set Yourself Free

Obedience is slavery,

and compression is pain

Set Your Mind Free, Don't Be a Human of Slain

Trust your mind and where it goes

how many stories can your heart hold?

To think long and hard is what you need,

Open Your Mind. Think Like Me

The author's comments:

This piece is inspired by George Orwell's 1984 and by the book The Language Instinct by Steven Pinker. I would like to emphasize that if you are not careful of what you hear and read you could be misguided. Language is very important. I am from Bellport, New York and seventeen years old.
