Hibernation
The little squirrel’s tail bounces around.
As he gathers his nuts off the ground.
He carried as many as he could hold.
Because winter was coming and it was getting cold.
Up in the tree sits my friend Mr. Owl.
He watches the squirrel with his usual scowl.
Soon he will take off for warmer weather.
To the ground falls a single feather.
The snow has started and the wind is blowing.
In the house the fire is glowing.
I climb the tree and curl up in my nest.
I am going to take a long, long rest.
