Porcelain Cheeks
Swollen tears stream down porcelain cheeks,
Doesn’t know what’s happened these past weeks,
Child hands catch baby’s tears
An emblem of her greatest fears
Mommy left the other night
Nobody here to hold baby tight,
The floorboard squeaks outside her door
Her heart begins to pound with horror
Daddy storms in, he’s acting strange
He’s cursing at her and exploding in rage
He runs to her and grabs her wrist
He twists it tight and makes a fist
Her pale skin gets cut and bruised
But she didn’t know she was being abused.
Little baby’s too scared to scream
She wishes she could wake from this dream.
And when she leaves for school tomorrow
She’ll be strong and hide her sorrow.
She wishes it were all pretend,
Her broken wings can’t seem to mend,
Her crying weakens as the night drags on.
How she wishes Mommy hadn’t gone.
Outside the sky dances with rain
Mourning the little child’s pain.
And when the sunlight kisses her face,
It clear to see morning’s come too late.
The child’s pain has finally ceased
And her innocent soul can rest in peace.

Honestly, i thought this was better than Martina McBride's "Concrete Angel".
Really, it was :)
the flow and rhythm and meaning of it is just amazing.
well done.
