The Bridge
Smokey puffs of cloud blanket the indigo sky.
Through bright eyes the day seems downtrodden.
However, my mood will not change.
Not even when I feel the first raindrop kiss my skin.
You have been ever-present throughout my life.
You have witnessed my triumphs and downfalls.
On the busiest of days, you have been here.
On the slowest, you have been here.
Today, I move onto something greater.
Though it is sad to leave my friend behind,
It is inevitable.
I will visit often for this is my home.
As I gradually peel open the envelope, adrenaline shoots through my veins.
My hands ever-so-slowly unfold the letter.
My eyes jump to the congratulatory line.
I have been accepted to something larger, dear friend.
I touch your worn down railings and whisper goodbye.
