Words Left Unsaid
“Mom, we need to talk.”
I say, my voice ringing like a phone.
“It hasn’t been an easy walk,
And you surely aren’t alone.
You go to work every day,
In order to put food on the table.
You never listen when they say,
That ‘You are not able.’
You offer unconditional love,
You give everything you can.
Never expecting miracles from above,
Never relying on a man.
So thank you mom,
For being strong,
And continuously pushing through.
Just take a look at how far we’ve come;
And it’s all because of you.”
And so I finish and take a deep breath,
Inhaling deep and steady.
Then suddenly my mother calls upstairs to me,
“Brianna, dinner’s ready!”
So I crumple up my note,
And drop it to the floor.
I watch my words as they fall,
And advance out the door.
