Found Poem
Forever I am a Slave
Property
Worth no more than cattle
Never given a choice
We can’t have a voice
I wish for death
But I’m never blessed
My prayers remain unanswered
I carry the curse
So I’m forced
To pass it on
To my poor innocent babe
It’s more than unfair
Life is full of despair
A vicious cycle
No hope.
No light.
No end
In sight
O, the serpent of
Slavery!
Has many and poisonous
Fangs!
I, however, choose to
Believe!
Escape is possible

I wrote this poem for English class. It is made from pieces of text from the book Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl.
