Future
I have to have a marvelous future; it’s something I must do
I have to live everyday pursuing my dreams, so I can be proud of who I’ve become
I have to remember the future of my skin,
My ancestors have fought so I may have this right within
My right to the best education, the highest paying jobs
That I have the right to choose, instead of following in the steps of my ancestors and shining someone’s shoes
My mother and grandmother have installed in me, to be the best I can be, be the true me
For many have fought that those like me, can receive the best future there will ever be
My future will speak for those around, who may feel because of how they look, they don’t relate with those who they surround
So they may know, that no matter your race, or where you come from, never limit yourself, even if they call you dumb
For it’s your decision to fight for your future, so those that mock will know the educated ones, were always cooler
