Failure.
Falling, Flailing, Failing
Unearthing foul feelings
For future fermentations
of our firm
educational
farce. Free
focus floats away from
us as freedom is forgot
in exchange for a nice,
safe, typical
success story.
Your fear is
a justifiable
price of the
end figure.

This is a concrete poem, also known as a shape poem, in the shape of an F. Since F is synonymous with failure due to its widespread use in grading, it often evokes a very strong emotional response in the reader that I wanted to bring out. Furthermore, since the poem itself is about the shortcomings of our educational system, a symbol associated with academia was perfect for it. Lastly, I wanted to draw intention to the irony that the very moment a student gets a F, not only is their work being failed literally, but they are being failed metaphorically by the school system as well.
