If I Could Leave My Body.
My soul stays chained, anchored to my body
Gridlocked into this time.
But, if I were given the chance to
I’d float my soul out of this body of mine.
I should like to think I’d fly
Farther and farther
Until I kissed the raven night sky.
I should like to think I’d meet the King of the Moon
And we would listen to the nightingale's echoing tune.
His face would be round as the moon should be
And in his eyes
An endless ocean of stars is all I see.
His soft, pale hands intertwine with mine.
Both our bodies are outlined with starlight
As we dance together throughout the night.
But as the burning sun
Crawls over the mountaintop
It signals the end of our fun.
I should like to think him and I would become friends
Even though, after I return to my binding body
I might never see him again.

Inspired by the folklore behind the Moon King, but in a lighter fantastical sense.
