"She turned her can'ts into cans and her dreams into plans."

~ Unknown

Invisible and isolated, powerless when caught,
Now invincible, irreplaceable, admired and sought.

              Exchangeable, replaceable, they once thought,
Now it’s my turn, finishing a battle, already fought.

Identity, integrity, fighting to be found,
Supremacy and authority push me to the ground.

Dictating, ruling, a life of my own,
Shadowing and conquering, oppression to the bones.

Surviving, thriving, off my lives- ripped away,
Pillaging, killing, such tyranny day after day.

              Destruction, devastation, desolation, decimation,
All caused by a veneer of reputation.

Concealing, shrouding, sweet feelings and enchantments,
Denying, regretting, actions taken as horrid harassments.

              Realizing, confirming, humanity bled away,
The aspect of future, so bleak and so grey.

              Alive, surviving, pushing against pain,
Striving for freedom all the same.

Seeking, reaching, holding on to anonymity,
Taken away, yet clutching, shattered, finding no unity.

Independent worries, now needing to lean on at length,
Upon an army, my hidden pillars of strength.

Hoping to heal, learning to cope, finding balance,
Between the mask, between the soul, true challenge.

Newly, freely, exploring with care and kind,
Through beautiful eyes long kept blind.

Giving and receiving, society revealed anew,

Bonds of blood and those of tears blending as harmonic hues.

This piece is about a mask that is leeching life from the person who wears it.
