Two-Tone

When I am around others, I am cotton candy pink.
I am soft and kind.
I flash a smile and laugh at all the right times.
Artificial and sickeningly sweet, but they never stop buying it.
Yet, when alone, I become pallid grey.
Numbness washes over me and my face goes blank.
Icy fingers rub away tears from damp cheeks.
Dull grey eyes blink indifferent at grey walls, grey ceilings.
My heartbeat is quiet, I don’t feel a thing.
When the grey becomes too loud,
I miss those who brought out the cotton candy pink.
