The Ballad of Addiction
Just one hit, it can not hurt me,
Told that two more won’t be deadly,
The third time never is the charm,
Because that is addiction’s harm.
I thought that I’d be sent to heaven,
The highs and lows, we vowed forever.
I thought that I had found my love,
But still, I never rose above.
I played a lethal game with Death,
Twice with cocaine and once with Meth.
We played with vodka, wine, and gin,
I didn’t know that he would win.
I fell so hard, there was no hope,
I’d never be as clean as soap.
I want to wash away addiction,
But I was never good with fiction.
