The Angel and The Siren
She kept near tides of blue
Amber ringlets sodden with the seas
Though life was grand in eastern waters
She cried for atlantic cities
He strayed close to the sky
Forgotten in the Apennine highlands
Though life was grand on mountaintops
He dreamt of life in urban islands
‘Cross the waves from Italy
Cabin swelled with laughter
Her barque arrived at Ellis isles
He followed just two years after
She busied herself as a city seamstress
And he: her bosses brother
He fell in love with her amber hair
And she: could trust no other
They swore their love in vows soft spoken
And immortalized their trust in rings
They created a home, far from their first
And begun their life in the county of kings

This piece describes my grandparents' story. Although both my grandparents grew up in Italy, they only ended up meeting once they had both come to New York City. To me, this shows that they were destined to be together.
