Way Above You
i allowed you to lift me to unearthly heights
far beyond fear, you eliminated all frights
you span me in circles and offered your arm
there’s no danger here, you protect me from harm
there isn’t a place i would rather be
soar above clouds, i feel more than just free
in you i do trust, you lead and i’ll follow
fill the deep void inside that once made me feel hollow
until all aspects of joy begin to recede
the reassurance you provide became something i need
so how does it feel when you’re no longer there
take all of my pride, leave me exposed and bare
i don’t make a move as i hover over all
wait suspended by hope ‘til the inevitable fall
sometimes a cloud helps me descend
brings me back down to earth, for myself i must fend
but sometimes the drop is so far from kind
has an impact on your body, as well as your mind
what hurts even more is the lack of concern
the fact that you’ve changed stings more than a burn
i was honest and true, heart exposed on my sleeve
comprehend the surprise when i watched you just leave
now isolated, alone, left on the surface to tread
wonder if there was a hint in the many things you said
did you issue a warning, show me a sign
or just disregard any feeling of mine
next time you decide to deceive and raise me
be assured that your antics won’t phase me
because now that i’ve fallen through vast skies of blue
i’ve learned for myself that i’m way above you.
