Two Sides to Every Story
I’ll never know her touch
Her feel, her wonder
I’ll never know his warmth
His cries, his thunder
I told her to go far
To go somewhere else, unless—
I told him I’d do so
Because that was better for us
I watched her fade into the distance
Into a memory, into a dream
I watched him stand there
Inside, I knew, crying to redeem
I turned her into my mind
My obsession, my love
I turned him into anger
Black fury that brought the end of—
I called her back
Wanting her breath near me again
I called him nothing
Unwilling to bend to his pride, then
I felt her thoughts
And began to scream my sins
I felt his remorse
But I did not give in
This is the story of two
Once together, now apart
“Why?” you ask them,
“did each break the other’s heart?”
