"Love is a poison, but it is also the antidote."

Full of magic
And infinite happiness,
Full of tragic
And infinite sadness.

Love is merely a word
A word that is so absurd
It makes us cry
And squirm and writhe

The most powerful of all emotions
Full of hate and deception,
Full of passion and devotion,
Filling our minds with ridiculous notions

Love makes one think
They’ve finally got it right
Until that love begins to sink
And it ends that final night

The dreary sadness
Pulsing through your veins
Driving you insane
No one can stop the madness

It is a disease
A sickness
An illness
A poison

Gnawing at your very soul
Sucking in every part of you
Until it’s taken full control
The things that love can do

But love is not all bad
It is amazing
And heart racing
It’s what we are all chasing

In this world so dark and gray
This world we live in today
In this world of hate please bring love back
Because in this world,
Love is what we lack

Love is one of the world's most complex concepts. Many people cannot grasp hold of the true meaning of love.

I agree with dirizzle, very strong, very heartfelt. I loved the flow and rythem of it. I think it is a tie between the second and the second to last stanzas for which stanza is my favorite. This is great. Keep writting!

Life has taught us that love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction. ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Wind, Sand and Stars, 1939, translated from French by Lewis Galantière

True. Sooo true.

I love poems like yours.  Actual MEANING is the premise instead of rhyming games and plays on words.
