Popping Red

Red pops from strawberries like a surprise hello,
And blankets a cardinal’s regal chest,
And colors a Fuji apple in strokes.
Red pops from my freshly painted toenails,
And stains my lips from a cherry popsicle,
And colors the jelly inside of a Swedish Fish.
Red pops from a fragrant spring rose,
And halts drivers from a stop sign,
And colors the clay earth below.
