Changing My Ways
Gets up every morning
Not sure what to think
Walks down the hall and out the door
Sees people dressed up to walk down the block
Gets to school, sees a girl sitting alone
He thinks to himself
“She’s so vulnerable, and it’s my fault”
He walks over to her, sits, and smiles
She looks away, stands up and leaves.
Now he sits, alone, and shouts out
“I’m changing my ways”
Lying in the bed
Not sure what to think
Looking at the crib, it’s empty but not for long
She looks down at her stomach
She thinks of how her life will change
Having a child while she’s still a child
She treats kids like babies
Yells all the time
Thinks of her mother, how she treated her
Now she sits, alone, and shouts out
“I’m changing my ways”
Sitting in the court room
Not sure what to think
A little girl’s dead
He thinks about that night
He didn’t her, it was dark
Her parents, weeping, right next to him
The judge calls him a monster
Disoriented, drunk, behind the wheel of a car
The judge asks “What do you have to say for yourself?”
Now he sits, alone, and shouts out
“I’m Changing my ways.”
