The Tenth Inning
10 seconds come and past
Since the last pitch was cast
ball to bat, bat to ball
You hear the crowd begin to call
First up, base one
You’ve only just begun
anxious now to see the fate
you’re sure your talent can create.
Half way, base two
so much left to do
so much to prove, to show
you have one gear, that's ‘go’
Almost there, base three
your careers moving swiftly
Days come and go
but your life's never slow
Finally, Home
And you find you are alone
No crowd, no cheers,
there is nobody here
The stands are bare
there's no one left to care
The game is over
This time forever
10 years come and past
Your time has come to end at last
Not in body, but in spirit
Your glory's faded, its time to leave it.
