I Wish Today was Halloween
i wish today was Halloween because i have a strong desire
to dress up as a pirate and strap a fake parrot on my shoulder
and to sail the seven seas of the local reservoir.
"HO! SAIL INTO THE LIGHT"post on the side of the street
and onto the house beyond it,
our booty of Kit-Kats await us.
you and i, my taunting mermaid, own this vessel of creation.
i want to dress up as a knight with tinfoil armour
and ride my bike down the block to save you, my princess,
from the tower of a school night and homework.
i shall joust valiantly against all those who dare to cross us,
to whisper venomous secrets behind your back.
i want to dress up as Han Solo and Chuck can be Chewy,
and your big brother, obviously, will be Luke Skywalker,
because we all know you're my Princess Leia.
we shall bring the masters of the dark side to their downfall
as we sail across the infinite in our cardboard Millennium Falcon
as the Death Star of the cat lady's house explodes behind us.
i want to dress up as Peter Pan and fly on the fairy dust of my imagination,
fight the villain known as Hook with the Lost Boys at my side,
as you, my little Wendy, join me in an evening flight to beyond the seventh star.
i wish today was Halloween so we could skip down the street all night,
to run and scream without parents yelling at us,
the sweet tastes of a hundred poorly wrapped candies.
i wish today was Halloween,
and tomorrow was Christmas.
but then again, everyday with you is a holiday
with an infinite supply of presents and sweets
and an endless fuel of imagination.
