"All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing." - Edmund Burke

I'm drowning in my troubles, but you're swimming in it
And all I want to do is follow you upstream
Whirlpools swarming at your feet, but you're spitting in it
With your hair shining from the gleam
Coming from the sun, radiating from heaven to pavement
Fueled by every one of my disappointments
Melting my unsure breath like sweat dripping from my countenance
But you catch every one and strain out all my petty sentiments

Your adrenaline peaks even in the inside of me in my bloodstream
Like sharks floating through with their endorphins protruding the surface
My heart snowballs down the lining into the avalanche of my stomach
Where you cocoon it until it becomes butterflies flying out through my gnashed teeth
And you capture it in homemade silk nets as if you're taking the words right out of my mouth

And you've been there, dear friend
Way back when I was in kindergarten, or any time I still had innocence
Back when the world was still dry and I had nothing yet to prove
Back before I had my feeling of acceptance teetering on my neighbor's fence
With a touch from your fingers on my sandpaper skin
You turned it into the leather of the finest Bible cover
Waving goodbye all the scars from their homes
Who's living it was to make tally marks for the list of all my ex-lovers

I'd rather take my chances back there in that sea than here in my concrete dream
Where my strained squint can't see anything past the skyline
And yet you're still riding a bike with the training wheels, but only for the innocence of it
Coming over to my parents house to cheer me off my stoop
And down the road faster, and faster, and faster until I'm long gone
