On This Soldier Bed
I am a wounded soldier,
Being hospital fed.
Trying to recover
On this soldier bed.
As I lay I thought
Of those who had lain here dead.
On this very pillow,
On this soldier bed.
I quickly recovered:
My body and my head.
I no more lay here,
On this soldier bed.
The war was soon over,
No more shooting lead.
I then forgot my sickness
On this soldier bed.
Many years later,
Something to me was said.
It made me think of being
On this soldier bed.
I suddenly remembered,
Clear as blood is red,
The things that I had thought here
On this soldier bed.
I am a wounded soldier
Being hospital fed.
Trying to recover
On this soldier bed.
