Phoenix
These ties that hold me to this Earth,
these ties that I fight to breathe;
Tethered-half up and half down,
not captured, but not free.
I writhe and cry with desperation,
I want to leave and fly away;
but when you're gone, there's no turning back,
Should I fly-or stay.
I know this life, I'm used to it,
with loved ones gathered round;
but out there is the great unknown,
Possibilities; life unbound.
So the question does remain,
should I stay or go;
Life is meant to be but lived,
with passion and with hope.
If I stay I continue on,
this monotonous paper road;
but if I fly, I take my life,
with the ashes of the bold.
Fire is a wild thing,
with passion blazing bright;
dangerous and hurtful,
but that's my chosen life.
I choose to burn the ties,
and leave this world behind;
the paper life, now ashes,
my fire is my guide.
