4 of Hearts
Deck of cards, showing hearts, laid out on the table,
I've opened a can of worms; I did not check the label.
Gambling my heart, what was I doing?
The table was shaking, a storm was brewing.
Winning really, was never conceivable,
I fought for something that was never believable.
5, 6, 7, 8,
Promises to be made will come too late.
My heart is black and creased with pain,
Where was the love that kept me sane?
Family's arms seem so far away,
I'm in the middle of a game I don't want to play.
But you had cards up your sleeve,
You knew I would never leave.
I understand, let the shame begin.
You won the hand. You always win.
