The Great Book Contest
The novel crowed, “I am the best!
I tell such tales, with no test!”
The novella said, “Now that’s a lie.
Little ones can read me as easy as pie!”
“Did someone say pie?” A cookbook flashed a grin.
“I have a recipe in here that will make all the ladies win!”
The science book said, “You all are so boring.
You don’t have any facts, and now, I’m just snoring!”
A math book nodded. “I must agree,
However, you don’t have as much sense as me.”
“Tra, la, la! I don’t care about facts!”
The music book sang, “Just keep your strings intact!”
A history book mused, deep in thought,
“Tact makes me think of when Grant and Lee fought.”
The grammar book shook her head sadly,
“You are going about you grammar quite badly.”
“Bad, faulty, imperfect, unsound.”
Roget’s Thesaurus went round and round.
“Speaking of ROUND, an atlas I be!
Look at the countries, from sea to shining sea!”
With a brilliant look the dictionary said, “I know!
Shine: to glimmer, to gleam, to glow!”
The notebook, with her white pages so pale,
Said, “Well I am here for someone else’s tale!”
“Speaking of someone else’s story,”
The biography said, “I’ll tell you of a Ten Boom named Corrie!”
A poetry book murmured dreamily,
“A river, a brook, flow so stream-ily.”
“I will paint pictures on the page”,
Picture book’s pictures showed a lion’s cage.
The Bible smiled, his faded cover was green.
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18.”
